Opening Day 12/26

Post by Jim »

'Twas the night before Opening Day and all through Forest County,
Not a snowmobiler was stirring, not even a grouse.
The helmets were hung by the wood stove with care,
In hopes that the Groomer Driver soon would be there.

The riders were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of well groomed trails danced in their heads.
The fortunate ones will take a break tomorrow and venture out,
leaving behind the unlucky souls who can only sit and pout.

When out on the trail there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
It was Jim and Josh completing some last minute tasks,
In preparation of tomorrow's grand gala blast.

An altruistic performance of chivalrous proportions to wish everybody,
"a Happy and Safe Snowmobile Season!"

Is anyone aware if Oconto and Langlade counties will open as well?

My experience has been Travel Wisconsin website is slow to update and posts inaccurate info. For example if you look at it now it shows 0.0" of snow as of 12/22/17, yet I look out the window and I see the 8" that have been on the ground for at least 10 days. No mention of the trails opening on the 26th, and this has been announced at least what 4 or 5 or more days ago?

I think the TW site depends on updates by the clubs/alliances in each county. Was pretty accurate in the past.

Forest Co. does have the open date listed, so???

But anyways....Langlade and Oconto look to be closed.

I always look here first for my local trails but it's a great idea to be able to visit a single site and get trail cond. for the whole state.

FWIW ... Red Arrow's report from earlier today definitively states they will NOT be open, and they're furthest north in Oconto, so I'd assume same goes for Paul Bunyan, as the two stay pretty well coordinated.

I'll be eagerly looking for first hand reports, as we have reservations at the Crandon BW for New Years weekend, and we're starting to wonder if we should head further north...
